Parker Colorado & Douglas County Area History

Parker Colorado Offers Urban Conveniences,
Open Spaces, Business Opportunities And A Family-Oriented Country Lifestyle

Parker's modest beginning came in 1860, when a one-room shack was moved from Pine Grove to Cherry Creek to serve as a stage stop called the "Twenty Mile House" because it sat approximately 20 miles from the origination point of the Butterfield Stage Line.

The shack grew into a 10-room inn before being sold to James Parker, the town's namesake. Under his
ownership, the inn prospered more than ever, eventually becoming a major stopping point for the railroad in 1882.

Parker grew slowly afterwards and was not incorporated until 1981, making its history as a city relatively brief.

At the time of incorporation, it had a population of less than 300. Today it houses more than 42,000 people.
